Let’s chat locations
Let’s have a little chat about locations. providing clients with the perfect location for their session is a huge part of our planning process.
Recently, I’ve been seeing a lot of requests for location suggestions within Facebook groups and even had a few people reach out to me personally. They had seen a photo that they liked and wanted to know what the location was. I want to be helpful but I also throwing out locations doesn’t necessarily help when I don’t know the photographer or the needs of the clients.
A GEM
This is one of those gems that I’m talking about. It’s a little pathway that I found when exploring the area with my children. Scouting out new locations can be such a fun experience and I highly recommend it to all photographers.
After talking with them a little bit more I suggested that they reach out to their photographer and talk with them because as a professional part of our planning process and what I offer is choosing a location that fits what they’re looking for most. I’ll ask my clients what they’re looking for a backdrop. trees, mountains, water, a lake versus a river, the city, studio, etc. then from there, I offer specific locations that fit those needs. If it is a large family with grandparents coming we need to ensure we have a easy parking and a spot to walk in easily. With toddlers a family may want to avoid the water, with older children walking aways is great, etc.
There are plenty of gorgeous spots like Katherine Albertson Park, Reed Merrill, Freak Alley, Boise Depot and I just encourage people to remember that we want to keep those places nice so that our city is happy to have us as photographers. but part of what I do is spend time finding hidden gems within our community, which is so fun to share with my clients.
if you’ve already chosen a photographer, I highly recommend asking them about a location. chances are they have the perfect place.
For photographers, if you don’t already, scouting is so fun. Head out and find those amazing locations. Your clients will love it.
