Picking the Right Newborn Photographer for You
Choosing a newborn photographer can be a challenge. There are so many newborn photographers with a variety of offerings and pricing. As a photographer for almost two decades here is what to expect and a few questions to ask before you book.
You have recently found out you’re pregnant, congratulations. You hop on Google and search “newborn photographer” a bunch come up and so it’s time to sift through them all to choose the one that is right for you. I’d start by looking through a few pages of them. It’s easy to go straight to the 1st page but you could be missing someone really great by not going past the 1st page.
Before you start contacting photographers, ask yourself;
Do you want a posed, lifestyle or combination session? With Mom, Dad and siblings?
Do you want a studio, in home or outdoor session? - yes, when the weather is right we can do outdoor.
How experience do you want your photographer to be?
Price point - how much are you wanting to spend?
Do you want digitals, prints, or products like albums and canvas?
Do you want a maternity session?
Once you have an idea of what you’re wanting you’ll be able to select the right photographer for you. This will just help you as your looking at websites and social media profiles.
I love it when a potential client reaches out and asks for more information so we can discuss what they are really wanting. It gives me a chance to talk with them about my process and what I offer from packages, props and swaddles to my experience and focus on safety of your newborn.
When reaching out these photographers here are 3 questions to ask to give you an idea if you’d like to learn more.
What is your experience with newborns?
Do you provide the wraps and props?
What is the scheduling process?
Here is how I would answer those.
I have been a photographer for over 19 years working with families in all stages of life. Focusing on newborns and maternity for about 15 years. I have trained in the art of newborn photography as well as had safety training both in person and online. My goal is for you to be able to relax and enjoy this experience and trust that I will create beautiful images while also keeping your newborn safe in my hands. In addition to working with many newborns over the years in a photography setting I also am a mother of 3 and worked in childcare for many years.
The studio is filled with adorable wraps, props and a client closet with a few options for Mom as well. I encourage you to bring anything special that you want to incorporate but it isn’t necessary I have all that’s needed. More details on what’s available will be discussed during the planning process so if there is something specific you’re hoping for we can talk about that.
Now that you’ve reached out we can talk more specifics on what you’re wanting during your session. You’ve taken the 1st step. Next I will send over a quick questionnaire where I’ll learn a bit more about you, your family and when you’re due. Once complete and you decide to book I will send over all of the booking documents in a personalized proposal before we will talk more about details including colors, sets and finalizing the location. When booking we select a date based on your due date, then you reach out if anything changes and we adjust. I keep dates available near any booked newborn session to accommodate these changes.
After hearing back from me you may have additional questions which I’m happy to answer. This is a starting point and hopefully will help you to connect with the right photographer for you.
